It never ceases to amaze me how some folks act when they are guests. You allow them in, then they bitch because they don’t like the way things are. If it were me, I’d just leave. I mean, really. Why waste time somewhere if you don’t like it? But, we’re talking about the liberal mind, so go figure. Command and control and all that jazz. Before I address any specific points, let me ask each of you a very simple question.
When you’re blogging here, are you having fun?
Give that question serious thought before you go on. If you cannot honestly say “yes”, then don’t read past the break. Just leave. You’re doing yourself a disservice if you continue doing something that isn’t fun for you.

If you’re still reading, then either you really do have oodles of fun blogging OR you’re lying to yourself. If you can live a lie, so be it. Why is blogging fun for you? Is it the interaction? Or is it simply that you love ruffling feathers? Do you enjoy debate with others? I want you to come here and have some fun. This shouldn’t be work for anyone.
Whatever your reason for doing this, when you come here, you accept the terms of the blog. Right, wrong, or indifferent, you will follow the rules posted. Most of you don’t know the crap that was put up with over at AS1.0. While I’m not going to get into any of the particulars, I can tell you that the reasoning for many of the rules stemmed from most of that backroom BS. We don’t want a repeat of it here, so the rules are what they are and they will be followed. To quote Chief Minion Bart from his initial message –
You can all start your own blog, so you post here at MY pleasure.
You can whine about fairness, bitch about double standards, moan about oppression, but at the end of the day, you’ll follow the rules. I don’t have a great deal of time to mediate pissing matches, nor do I have any interest in repeatedly slapping hands. Calling each other name upon name only fosters the worst possible scenario.
Now – to the double standard hogwash. Newsflash – this blog leans right. This should come as no surprise to anyone. Also, given the fact that, by definition, a blog is an opinion forum, it should also come as no surprise to anyone that the opinion you espouse here likely will not be shared by others. Therein lies the rub, my friends. Your challenge is to accept that others really do have a brain and put together their arguments to the best of their ability. So, if you take personally post titles such as “environmentalists = lying piece of shit”, you aren’t having fun, nor are you trying very hard. You’re taking it too seriously and this isn’t for you. Always remember, it is incumbent upon YOU to answer that post with a reasoned argument that isn’t chock full of insults. If you disagree with it, spell out your reasons why. If you can’t do that without calling the contributor a fucker or stupid or racist or whatever your choice of names, then ignore the post or leave. It is that simple. When we say “no insults” in the rules, it means you’re not going to insult each other. Public figures are fair game – and while I would hope that the contributors here would give a bit more thought to their titles on a go forward basis, at the same time I want traffic. I want something that riles people up. I don’t want stale. Reasonable adults should be able to have a conversation about unreasonable topics or situations without exchanging barbs, even if they read something that is so vile they can’t think of anything other than name calling. You’re an adult, act like it.
All of that being said, the rules still stand, and these rules apply to EVERYONE –
- No insults towards each other.
- No threats
- Wives and kids are a no-no. I will allow criticism of public figures, so if you need to vent about Michelle Obama or Barbara Bush, have at it but do so as reasonably and respectfully as possible
- No gay bashing. Homophobes will be banned permanently. Deal with it – Gays are people too.
- Review your comment/post before hitting the button – if what you just said isn’t nice, don’t post it.
- If you take this blogging thing too seriously and you’re not having fun, take some time off. Or have a drink and lighten the fuck up.
- If I ban you, there is a reason and I’m not going to have an unending conversation about it. Deal with it, move on, tough hop for you.
- Respect is earned. Treat others here on this blog as you would like to be treated. Unless you’re into S&M, then just let us know your safe word. Also, Douche is a term of respect around these here parts. We will trot it out on occasion – consider it an honor and return the compliment.
- The Al Gore rule remains in effect – I will not allow ANY group to post under one name. If you’re incapable of blogging under your own name or moniker, bye.
- The Al Gore 2 rule remains in effect – I will not allow anyone to blog under the name of a public figure. Because No.
- NO threadjacking. Period.
- Sports talk, in moderation, will be tolerated.
- If you don’t like the rules, GET THE HELL OUT. Nothing is keeping you here, we’re not forcing you to blog here.
As I cannot be on the blog 24/7, nor do I want to be, there will be a group of hand picked contributors that will deal with the BS as per my rules. I’m taking a collaborative approach, but this is still an Irish Dictatorship – the Chief Mick on High still rules this blog with an Iron Potato.
Most importantly, I enjoy laughing and having a good time. So, try it out yourself and keep it in mind when you’re playing with us here at the Anti-Strib. Every once in a while, we’ll lighten things up here, as all politics and no fun is, well, no fun. Movies, music, art, food, jokes, hot chicks, whatever. Have some fun for the love of pete.
I hope this clears things up. I’m not going to have a discussion about this anymore. You’ll agree to and follow the rules or you can leave. I hope you choose to stay and have fun with us.

I'm liking our new digs. One comment though...it seems that the space that I am writing my comment in is a light yellow, and the font is white....VERY hard to see what I'm writing here...is this an issue with my account settings of the page?
When I click OUT of the box, the background goes white and the font goes black.

There is a set limit to how SHORT a comment can be?

is there a way to add our individual twitter feeds to the twitter stream? That would be kind of cool.

Now the resident shut-in (me) is not quite so "shut-in".
Many thanks, Duce.

It's too soothing! At least throw in a pineapple or a coconut.

Titles for the comments is extremely cool, however. It's kinda like the tags from the old site.

For us of the geezer type, the colors, while cool, are difficult.

I'm old and decrepit and this is far easier on my eyes that the start black and white. STFU and give it a chance.

In case anybody cares, I like black print on white background better, too.

Duke, when it is reeeeealy needed can we drop the occasional F bomb? After all it is the only word in english that can be a noun, verb, ajective and adverb. As in; " The F'ing f'er is F'ing F'ed!"

Did you ever see the movie "Boondock Saints"? There's a great scene in there where Rocko goes off like that, after the guys knocked off a room full of Russian mobsters.. and one of the nice Irish lads says "Well, he certainly proves the diversity of the word, now, doesn't he?"
Gods, that movie is so F'ing Awesomely Funny!
I recommend it to everyone. Best dark comedy pretty much ever!

Right on Moonie, a dark and funny flic. I lost a dear friend last week and we had a gathering. Since his humor was dark, we had a gas! Laughted my butt off. Very good time. A mutual friend came up and said " he'd look out and say; WTF are all these people doing here? Hell I just died and anybody can do that."

that #1 and #6 do (or should ) not apply to me. Feel free to bash my "virginity" and so forth. I'm too easy of a target besides, it wouldn't be Anti-Strib without people insulting me constantly

" Feel free to bash my "virginity" and so forth. ... it wouldn't be Anti-Strib without people insulting me constantly. "
Yeah, like that wasn't gonna happen anyway. Still, thanks for the go ahead, cherry boy.

Duce,
I don't always do "nice" well and it's hard to resist responding when attacked but I will try. I'm getting pretty good at not going on-line when my lunacy flares up but I don't always notice how bad it is. Should I say something stupid or ugly, I apologize in advance. Please let me know as soon as you can and feel free to smack me about the head and shoulders. It's the only way I will get better at self-monitoring.
