The next time I hear a legislator complain...

Posted by: Jim W

I might lose my effing mind.  I have a friend that has been working TONS of hours as an aide at the capital and as we all know, the state House and Senate have been working their tails off trying to finish the budget.  Well, she came upon a room where a few House members were sitting having a very serious discussion.

One House member, who shall remain nameless, said to another House member...

So, who is your favorite muppet?

Kelliher and Pogemiller can shut the fuck up now and stop blaming the Governor for delaying the process.  If this is what counts as hard work trying to finish the budget, we could just have Kindergarteners doing the job.  Remember this in November gang...

VOTE THE BUMS OUT.

Which bums are those now?

All of them

Vote out all incumbents. They are all tainted.

OK, and this time we'll elect better lawmakers why?

Ed
the original intent of our founding fathers was not a political elit but a person servsint the nation for one term or two at the most then to retuen home and live under the laws they wrote the idea was they would make better laws as they had to live under the laws they helped write

All of them need to go. Regardless of what side of the aisle. These are the best and brightest...and the best they can do is talk about who their favorite muppet is. Screw that. WE have endure hearing Kelliher and Pogemiller whine about how Governor Tim won't just do what they say and how they have to work all these hours to do the job that SHOULD be done in a timely manner. Yet every year they try and force through shit that they KNOW will get vetoed and then play this game over and over. MEanwhile, we have fucking legislators talking muppets. Unreal.

I just saw one of Matt Entenza's commercials. He wants to be Governor because Minnesota sucks, and he's going to fix it.
If only he were black...

90% of success is just showing up. They're there working on the problem. Paw Paw went fishing.

He's just following in the trend of Republican leaders being missing in action when its time to step up. Bush didnt leave the ranch for a week after Katrina and Emmer is off doing god knows what when crucial votes are needed.

Say what you will about both parties in our legislature, they have been working hard to come up with a solution. Its too bad we have a Governor, who has 0 chance of winning a nomination for national office, who can't at least work as hard at the job he gets paid for,

...the next time a Tic from MN attempts a shot at a higher national office, Don. I expect to see objections from you (and all the other leftists bagging on Pawlenty for his preparations for a presidential run) exactly as vociferous as you've been making against Pawlenty.

Obama has a FAR FAR worse record of "not being around" than Bush, Emmer or Pawlenty ever did and do. He only served 18 months of his senatorial term, then went out campaigning. He missed THREE HUNDRED VOTES.

Put a sock in it.

And Kelliher missed 60 votes while she was off doing god knows what. THe point is, all of these "elected officials" are elected to do a job. If emmer and Kelliher can't break away from campaigning for GOvernor and do their jobs, that shouldn't sit well with anyone. Particularly when you look at the substance of the votes which htey "missed". And while kelliher and pogemiller are whining about the governor not bending over earlier in the week and doing what they say, their pals are spending valuable time sitting in a room with the opposing party talking about muppets.

Oh, and By the way Don - The governor has been in his office the bulk of the day, despite the bad information you're passing along. Legislators have been in and out of his office all day long...

The job is not getting done.
written by TomC , May 17, 2010

Tim Pawlenty has been and continues to do his job. One of his jobs is to keep the legislature in check--sone, done, and done.

The legislature's job is to present a bill (a budget bill, in this case) to the governor that has a chance of passing. When they have been told repeatedly that a tax/fee/etc increase will be vetoed, then to present a bill that has those elements is not doing the job.

It was easy. The pain had already been felt. Just endorse the cuts that the governor had already put forth, then denied by the judiciary.

Pawlenty
written by Don Roscoe , May 17, 2010

is Minnesota's version of Bush. He leaves the state worse off than when he took office, all to support what will most certainly be a failed attempt at national office. He leaves the mess for his successor as Bush did instead of being a leader and doing the job he was elected to do,

In some ways, having Emmer inherit this mess might actually be a wake up call. He's another ultra conservative pin head who will take the state back to the 1800's but maybe just once, conservatives should have to clean up their own messes.

So Don, do you apply ANY blame to the Democrats in this latest Budget fiasco? Any at all? Or does this whole thing fall solely on the shoulders of the republican governor? I'm just curious, because the session has gone on for 3 months, and the message has been consistent. It's laughable for you to come out and whine about the Governor attending the fishing opener as an attempt in your mind to skirt his responsiblitlies. Um, the job could have been done well before Saturday, so I'm having a very hard time finding much of anything of substance in your comments.

Now, I know you're smarter than this Don. And you know enough to understand how politics work. One side wants the moon and stars, the other side only wants to give the moon, and the governor tries to get them to agree that the moon and one star is sufficient. It's the same fucking game every year. Ultimately, there is an increase in many areas in spending, yet the democratic majority plays it up as massive cuts. Those of us smart enough to understand how the game works know that it's alot of BS and whining. So when I posted this "muppet" nonsense, it was simply an example of certain folks "working real hard" just crying wolf. If there is such hard work taking place, and aides running around busting their asses, for them to hear this kind of bullshit out of one side of the legislators mouths and then bashing the Governor for not signing off on the bill THEY wanted him to sign out of the other is simply more of the same bullshit politics that most of us are sick to death of hearing about.

Oh, and Governor's attending the fishing opener, which is a big deal to MANY people in this state, has been happening as far back as I can remember. With both Dems and Repubs. So stifle it, Don. Your attempt to make this all about the Governor falls well short of the mark.

There is plenty of blame

to go around on both sides. But the legislature has repeatedly given him budgets with most of the cuts and no tax increases. And like a petulant child, he has to have his way. His one priority is moving up the political ladder and the state be dammed.

He is the decider. he has to decide to lead. All he's done is kick the can down the road for the next administration to fix. And mark my words, there aren't enough cuts left to balance it without tax increases.

Those tax cuts have sure done wonders for the economy over the past 8 years or so, haven't they? Yeah, its also a spending issue but Americans arent going to give up things they like without a fight. Good schools, parks, mass transit.

Again demographics -- where are wage earners moving to? urban centers. Where are the poor and immigrants moving to more than any other area -- the burbs.

We need cuts and revenue increases.

Don, Even with 911, W's tax cuts did everyone well. Every time we cut taxes GDP goes up. Works every time it's tried. From Warren Harding to JFK to RR. It's the spending stupid. Want to see a high tax union utopia try Detroit.

Ed,
You seem to think that voting out incumbents is a bad idea... that because we cannot elect better politicians we shouldn't vote out the incumbent.

You're thinking of it backwards. In one way it doesn't matter whether or not the next guy is better or worse... it stops the last guy.

THAT is the point.

These people cannot do good. They ain't all bad, but they get tainted over time. Prevent them from doing us worse.

Jim W

And as if the point wasn't clear - voting out the current bums takes them right out of their comfort zones. It's because they are comfortable in their elected roles that they whine about working so hard to the public, and then sit in meetings and talk about favorite muppets. Shake em up, toss em out on their asses and make em work for a living. They'll quickly learn that talking muppets on teh taxpayers dime probably wasn't the best use of time. neither is whining that the GOvernor won't do what they say.

I suprised no one said this yet, but..

I bet the unanimous answer was Kermit.

It suprised me ten years ago, paging through the Legislative Handbook, the number of DFL'ers from suspect occupations or none at all, who made it their work to be legistlators. I suspect it's worse now.

Pffft. I could cut budgets and programs enough to not only balance this budget, but leave us with enough left over to cut taxes too.

And the only people that would be squirting tears would be union hacks, welfare queens, uptown queens, some citizens of Chicago and Gary Indiana....you know, Democrats.

Annual "What I'd cut post" is up
written by Barthélemy Barbancourt , May 17, 2010

Every year I find $3 billion that could be easily cut from the budget and every year the liberals screams about the cops, firemen and roads. I'd turn every fucking dime of LRT money over to roads and I'd stop building bike paths at $1 million a mile. This time I left the massive Education Budget alone, as well as every dime for public safety.

Cutting the MN budget is easy. Getting the liberal press to admit it is impossible.
