Unemployment tops 20% in eight California counties

For many California areas, unemployment rates moved persistently higher in January, indicating that the national economic recovery hasn't yet translated into jobs for the Golden State.

New county-by-county figures released by the state Wednesday showed that in eight counties, more than 1 in 5 people were out of work. Moreover, revised numbers for last year show that fewer people were employed than was previously believed.

"The real mystery now is why we aren't getting job growth when the GDP has been positive," said Stephen Levy, director of the Center for Continuing Study of the California Economy.

Hey Steve, here are a few clues; high taxes, high regulatory burdens, environmentalism gone wild, billions wasted on Green initiatives (and stem cell research), a welfare mentality and powerful government unions.

Ya wanna bet some of those counties are in the central valley where they (the Feds) cut off the irrigation water to the most productive farmland in the world?

No crops
no transporting the crops.
no jobs maintaining the transportation fleet.
no farm jobs
no jobs maintaining the farm equipment.
no jobs at Birds eye and green giant.
No restaurant jobs cause everybody's broke.
The lack of jobs is a mystery to the statist bureaucrat, he's baffled!
More government meddling! That's the ticket!

Yes, the Dept of Interior has created the worst unemployment.

DEREGULATION! It is the only path to employment.

Yet a librul friend of mine still wants us in Minn/Wisc to move to San Diego and enjoy the wonderful wonderful state that is Kullyfornya. She fails to grasp the reality that she isn't a real Californian since her husband is a jarhead stationed there. (don't know what drew those two together)
