I'm a little biased when it comes to the Nicollet Island Inn.  Exactly a decade ago,  I hosted my wedding reception here. Dining here various times since, it serves as my litmus test. Here, my husband and I defined our phrase, "taste density(TD)." TD is the amount of pleasurable taste divided by bite (volume). Price is not variable in this equation. Although I'd prefer a tiny palm size portion of WOW for 50$ vrs. 12$ platter of filling tasteless "meh."  Imagine a 3.5" prime braised Rare medallion wrapped in bacon, drizzled with some awesome gourmet sauce(=high TD). One that possesses you embarrass yourself by trying to pry the recipe from the staff. Anybody ever tried this? Now think your average pasta dish at Buca di Beppo(=low TD).

Located adjacent to the landmark Hennepin Ave bridge, overlooking the Mississippi River, the Nicollet Island has never scored low in ambience. Parking will not be an issue. New to me, was an installed outdoor gas fireplace and the piano room. Live music plays on Saturdays. The tables are still on the outside patios, if your craving an after meal smoke.
