Resort-style swimming pools with fountains and heated spas, billiards rooms, granite counter tops, ceramic tile, indoor basketball courts, stainless steel appliances -- many Fairfax County taxpayers cannot afford such luxuries.  But they are paying for these amenities for use by low-income residents who live in subsidized housing in affluent neighborhoods.

"They're a part of our rental program where we subsidize the rents for the individuals in the units, and we end up having to pick up the condo fees," supervisor Pat Herrity told 630 WMAL News.

Our society has reached a point where the sane decision is to either go on welfare or get a government job. Working in the private sector is for suckers.

Of course, anyone with their head out of their ass knows that this situation can't last. If you make it preferable to suck off the private sector then the private sector will shrink and reduce the amount of funds available to support the moochers. See Greece for the inevitable conclusions.

One would hope that our nation could avoid violence, but stories like this make me doubt that. The bureaucrat that approved putting welfare recipients in luxury condos is just one of many clueless liberals that can't see how stupid they have become. Their sense of entitlement runs deep and they won't give it up without a fight.

A bureaucrat is a bureaucrat. I don't know if they made the decision or inherited it but defending it is just plain stupid.

I will happily list many Republicans that are stupid or have done stupid things
- Tim Pawlenty's support of Cap and Trade (Add in Mitt Romney for his support of MMGW)
- GW Bush and his bloated budgets, education bills and open borders/Amnesty policies
- Most of the shit that comes out of Lindsey Graham's mouth
- John McCain
- Ron Paul on International Relations (Ron Paul on economics is dead on)

I could go on but I think you get the picture.

I'll be honest Bart. I find this a ridiculous and outrageous as you do if it is indeed presented factually. This type of free housing has no place in our society but blaming this on stupid liberals without evidence to support it is sloppy and irresponsible.

Why should the government provide free housing to anyone?

Most Americans live in the housing that they can afford. I lived with other people when I was too poor to afford my own place, why can't poor people do this.

Does anyone think the welfare recipient living here has any incentive to leave?

The best way to avoid waste and abuse is to not have the opportunity to do it. Housing subsidies should be eliminated.

If the residents get a job they would have to move into a crappy apartment and live within their means. Much better to stay poor and live in luxury. It's for the children.

its for the children.....

You need to ditch the red meat lines Sequel. It's sooooo played. I'm with you guys on the subsidized housing issue for the able bodied. I can see something for assistance for those with special needs, etc... we just can't throw everybody on the street in the name of keeping taxes low. We are a compassionate society after all. Hell in my macoroni and cheeze days I leved in a decent 3 bedroom house in the suburbs but I shared it with 4 other people and my rent was only $200/mo. Not bad! There are ways for to have decent housing if you take a little initiative and offer caretaker services, etc... in exchange for a portion of the rent.
