Obama the Pessimist

In one of the illuminating, unscripted moments of the 2008 presidential campaign, Barack Obama said—much to the dismay of his core constituency—that the Reagan presidency had been "transformational" in a way that Bill Clinton's hadn't. Needless to say, Mr. Obama aspired to a transformational presidency of his own.

Temperament mattered. Ronald Reagan was the quintessential optimist, his faith in America boundless. He had been given his mandate amid economic distress—the great inflation of the 1970s, high unemployment and taxation—and a collapse of American authority abroad. Through two terms and a time of great challenges, he had pulled off one of the great deeds of political-economic restoration. He made tax cuts and economic growth the cornerstone of that recovery. Economic freedom at home had a corollary in foreign affairs—the pursuit of liberty, a course that secured a victorious end to the Cold War. The "captive nations" were never in doubt, American power was on the side of liberty.

By that Reagan standard, Mr. Obama has been a singular failure. The crippling truth of the Obama presidency is the pessimism of the man, the low expectations he has for this republic. He had not come forth to awaken this country to its stirring first principles, but to manage its decline at home and abroad. So odd an outcome, a man with an inspiring biography who provides no inspiration, a personal story of "The Audacity of Hope" yielding a leader who deep down believes that America's best days are behind it.

Obama, like Jimmy Carter and many liberals, doesn't think America is exceptional. They don't see greatness in our future, just a larger socialist state that lifts a few and lowers many.

This is one of the many reasons that people think Obama is out to destroy Reagan's America. Obama has an all to familiar mixture of hatred and ignorance of what makes America great.

Pure bullshit Bart. I think you know by now where I stand politically and I believe America is exceptional and I am excited and working hard toward a better future. You still have failed to provide evidence that President Barack Obama is intentionally destroying our Country. I've asked for evidence on quite a few occaisions when this topic has come up and you have never provided any real evidence. Just conservo-jackoff speculation.

I haven't said it was intentional

I think he's too fucking stupid to know what he is doing. But lots of people think Barry O is doing this on purpose so I'll lay out some of this antics for you.

Obamacare - take over 1/6th of the American economy and get everyone dependent on the government. The fact that Obamacare increases costs just adds fuel to the fire.

Porkulus - $800 billion sent to state governments to prop up the unions. No help at all for the private sector. The recession continues as Obama crushes the private sector with more regulations.

The Drilling Ban - Obama could get drilling permits approved faster and create jobs, the fact that his admin has slowed this down is proof that they don't want jobs.

Fast and Furious - Holder and his buddies sold arms to Mexicans knowing they would be used in drug wars and they hoped it would create a demand for more gun control. They were right, the guns were used to kill border patrol agents, but the public is on to their trick.

$5.5 trillion in new debt in 3 years. Here is where it's hard to say that Obama isn't actively trying to bankrupt our nation. Obama's original 2012 budget called for increased spending, it was defeated 97-0.

The Fed is printing $$, which has lead to inflation without economic expansion. Obama has replicated Carter's stagflation policies and gotten the same result Jimmy got.

Try to find one thing that Obama has done to help the private sector. He is the most anti-business President in my lifetime. When people see a President that hates the wealth creators of our society and unemployment is over 9%, they conclude that Obama hates them and hates America. Obama has done nothing to prove them wrong.

Wrong man, wrong place, wrong time.

You still have not proven evidence that Obama hates America Bart and you can't. Why in the hell would a man who hates his Country run for its highest office?? You're making no sense.

Obama settles at least one debate

There is an ongoing debate on the right as to whether Barry O is intentionally destroying the USA or he is just completely incompetent and thus too stupid to know that his actions are destroying our country. Barry's press secretary has attempted to clear up this debate.

When Jay Carney says that the President's job goals have been met and we have 10% unemployment, you have to have wonder; Was Jay serious that 10% unemployment was Obama;s goal or was he lying.

Either way it was a pretty fucking dumb thing to say.

Because he wants to change America into a European style, socialist experiment. His ignorance means that he has no idea how much pain this will cause.

Barry hates private businesses, he thinks that the government is the answer to everything. His goal as President is to redistribute wealth. His ignorance is what is killing this country as America isn't about wealth redistribution.

He thinks he's doing good when he is actually doing harm. That is why I think he's a fucking moron.

get the humor in suggesting the President is intentionally destroying the Country. I voted for the man and I would never vote for someone who's intent it is to destroy the Country I love so dearly. I agree that what Carney said was stupid; I was taken aback as well when he said these words. It's obviou$ what fuel$ your negative opinion of Pre$ident Obama and that i$ fine; I respect that but I felt strongly in countering your claim that the President is intentionally destroying the Country as you had said.

It may well not be intentional. He, as well as most progressives, look to europe and see utopia. Most of us don't. I personaly think he doesn't have a clue. He's never lead a cub scout pack, run a leamon aide stand, and now he's the leader of the free world? Clueless.

Money?
written by Barthélemy Barbancourt , August 02, 2011

If you mean money as in what fuels the economy, jobs and our lives, yes, Obama is a crushing failure. Commerce is incredibly important and Barry O just doesn't get this.

If you mean my personal taxes, if for 2 seconds I thought 5% more from me would equal 5% in additional economic growth, I'd happily pay it.

You need to understand that many have come to realize that not only is government massively wasteful, it is also destructive. Take almost any area not specifically laid out in the Constitution and I can show you where the government is doing more harm than good.

Welfare has destroyed generations of lives and created a permanent under-class. The EPA has sent millions of jobs overseas. The FDA has set up a system that pushed devices to Europe first, costing American lives and making Europe richer.

Commerce is not just important, it is what makes us human. Trade and commerce that we practice are unique to only humans. No other creature does it. PBO doesn't "get it". neither do most progressives.

"It was a play on words using a Bart fav "Enviro-jackoffs" Sorry if I rattled you with that one."

You never rattle me with your projections, Woodrow.

It does puzzle me that you continue to protest the facts as presented armed only with DU/Huffpo talking points that only cocooned lefty loons can take seriously. Keynesianism was declared dead over 30 years ago. It was a mid-20th Century experimental economic dead-end anomaly that was an ignoble failure wherever it was tried.

Start challenging the facts as presented, I'm itching to hear why Paul Krugman and Paul Samuelson are right. You said you love the country dearly, you surely must be appalled at what has happened to the country you love under Obama's irresponsible leadership over the last two-and-a-half years. Point by point, tear down the facts arrayed against the disaster that is Obama, I eagerly await your answer.

1. Denial and Isolation.
2. Anger.
3. Bargaining.
4. Depression.
5. Acceptance.

I think you are somewhere between 1 and 2, so you still have some work to do along the steps in overcoming the grief involved in your uninformed voting decision in 2008 for a charlatan dilettante, a product of avowed left-wing nutters.
