Indiana Rep. Mark Souder gets caught cheating, is sorry...

Posted by: Jim W

...but what is he sorry about?  I'm not entirely certain he's sorry for the right reasons.

Eight-term Indiana Rep. Mark Souder announced his resignation Tuesday after admitting to an affair with a female aide who worked in his district office.

Souder, a Republican, will will step down on Friday. He said in remarks obtained by Fox News that he "sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff."

"I wish I could have been a better example," he said. "In this poisonous environment of Washington D.C., any personal failing is seized upon, often twisted, for political gain. I am resigning rather than to put my family through that painful, drawn-out process. ... We are a committed family but the error is mine and I should bear the responsibility. Not only am I thankful for a loving family but for a loving God."

You're a stupid cheating dick, Mr. Souder.  You are precisely what is wrong in politics today - a long time state Rep that has sat comfortably in his chair in DC for FAR TOO LONG.  People like you are why people like me are sick and fucking tired of politicians, regardless of which of the two major parties they are connected.  I don't care what GOOD you may have done in Washington.  You clearly have had two agendas all along - save your ass and get some poon.  You're less than a man.

Since you're resigning, you ass, the least you could do is admit WHY you're really sorry.  It's not because you cheated, that you sinned, that you had a moral failing.  No, you're sorry that you got caught.  Otherwise, you'd have made a statement DIRECTLY after you first inserted your "8 term" penis into your aide.  But you didn't do that, did you Mark?  Nope.  You got caught, so THEN you're sorry.  What difference does it make if you admitted to the truth now?  Still trying to save face?  Still gotta stroke your own ego?  What a shocker...another cheater whose ego is out of control.

A better example?  Screw you Souder.  We don't need politicians to be better examples.  We need you to button up your pants and do the job you're elected to do, not pork the staff because you think you can.  Good riddance.

Cheating and cheaters
written by TomC , May 18, 2010

Today with audio, camera, or video capabilities on most cell phones all cheaters and cheating is at risk. Any public figure can expect to be "on display" at all times. There are no secluded restaurants, no rooms to rent, no venues out of reach for the romantic tryst. The days of Kennedy escapades are gone.

Public figure, especially those who bank on their conservative, family-oriented images, must resist temptation. A Democrat might be able to get away with using their headquarters as a pimp's business, but a conservative cannot.

If he was a Democrat he'd be getting an award.

So why don't we throw them all out?

There are a few good eggs in Washington, but they are a very small minority. Getting rid of everyone would do way more good than harm.

Agreed, often for both sides of the aisle. This guy was in for 16 years! That's damn near a career.

After a little reading on legislative pension plans, I've realize how much they are a huge part of the problem and incentivize the low turnover and careerism.

I don't see how this is bad.

He's probably going to get thrown out, right? Where's the down-side... other than with his family?

I saw the note on Yahoo! about "scandals" in both parties as if this were bad for us. Dude, it's bad for the politicians involved. Get rid of them.

I agree with Jim; he may not be resigning for the right reasons, which would be that his infidelity has demonstrated that his wife cannot trust him, so why on earth can the electorate trust him?

Thank you.

You said it best, Jim W...

I am surprised it took him 8-terms to lose his moral compass...

At least he could have had his "affair" with Frank and kept it in the family....
