Deputy Chris Dewey

You might remember this name - this is the deputy shot in the head by a suspect back in 2009.  He has endured an 18 month battle since his February 18, 2009 shooting and is now near death.  Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.  http://www.startribune.com/local/98595564.html?elr=KArksLckD8EQDUoaEyqyP4O:DW3ckUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aULPQL7PQLanchO7DiUsX

Thank you for your service, Deputy Dewey.  And to his family, especially his lovely wife Emily (who is one of the strongest people I have ever seen), we keep you all in our thoughts.

Every single night I pray for God to bless those who work to keep us safe here at home:
Police, Firefighters, Emergency Medical Techinicians, First Responders, Doctors and Nurses.

Shit like this breaks my heart.

Chris has a Caringbridge page if you would like to leave a message of support for his family:

Done Wendy, and thank you for the the link to have the privilege of thanking Chris' family.

And If "B.J. Barker" ever comments here he will be instantly banned. What an ugly, small-minded POS.

Words could never do justice to Emily and Chris and all of their family for all the pain they're going through. I only hope they can heal as much as humanly possible.

"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

This is from me
Every day somewhere while the normal people are streaming out of buildings or away from gunfire
Our Police and fire men and women are running into the building or in the direction of gunfire. No Grater gift there is then a man laying his life down for another.
God grant him an easy passage.
