I came upon this little nugget of the darker side of this country's history this weekend, actually, I now have six of them. Now, there is no doubt that the image and the text are 'offensive' on many levels to and for many people. The question that I'd like to pose here is, should items like this ring be preserved for future generations to see, or should it be tucked away into the back of a drawer somewhere if not destroyed because of it's 'insensitivity'?

JULY 9--A Mexican street clown--arrested in full face paint--was booked Wednesday on a sexual assault charge. Pedro Artega Velazquez, 53, was juggling on a Juarez street corner when collared by cops in connection with the alleged assault of his teenage stepdaughter. Velazquez posed for the mug shot, which was released by the Chihuahua state attorney general's office...

I don't know what's funnier...that the guy is still wearing the face paint in the mug shot, the fact that it's a Mexican clown, or that it went down in Chihuahua...or all of it together. All I know is that I'm laughing my WHOLE ass off over this one...

When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his assent to their acts of pretended legislation: For quartering large bodies of armed troops among us: For protecting them, by mock trial, from punishment for any murders which they should commit on the inhabitants of these states: For cutting off our trade with all parts of the world: For imposing taxes on us without our consent: For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of trial by jury: For transporting us beyond seas to be tried for pretended offenses: For abolishing the free system of English laws in a neighboring province, establishing therein an arbitrary government, and enlarging its boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule in these colonies: For taking away our charters, abolishing our most valuable laws, and altering fundamentally the forms of our governments: For suspending our own legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever. He has abdicated government here, by declaring us out of his protection and waging war against us. The Myth Of The Hyper-Competent Government

So many on the left end of the body politic spend an incredible amount of time and energy perpetuating the Myth Of The Hyper-Competent Government. Where did this idea come from that adding layer after layer of (basically) office staff improves efficiency and reduces the cost of any given task or industry? Why, after a couple of centuries of proofs to the contrary, does this idea that the Fed comes in to do what is only good and correct, beneficial in only the most benevolent of ways come from? I'm not suggesting that the Fed is functionless or should be eliminated or any such nonsense, but I am saying that the Federal Government does not have the responsibility, nor should they be granted the power to assume the position of a micro-manager of any and all that occurs in the day-to-day of the average citizen. If the role of the Fed were pared back, if the governance structure were 'a bit' (ahem, cough) closer to that which was originally laid out by our Founders, the response time and efficiency to real crisises that have an effect on the Nation could and most probably would, improve.

We are watching it right now, the change of nomenclature used in so-called discourse.  I can't help but see this as a means of distraction and the simplification of complex problems to enable those with diminished understanding of a problem, to empower them to beleive that their misunderstanding is just as valid as those who actually understand economics...

Statement by AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka on the Citizens United Supreme Court Decision
January 21, 2010

Today, the Supreme Court further tilted the playing field in favor of business corporations in public elections.  By allowing unlimited corporate treasury expenditures that explicitly support or oppose particular candidates, the Court has increased the already excessive influence that corporations exert in our electoral system.  And we believe the Court wrongly treated corporate expenditures the same as union expenditures, contrary to the arguments we made in our brief in this case.  Unions, unlike businesses, are democratically-controlled, nonprofit membership organizations representing working men and women across the country, and their independent speech should accordingly be given greater protection.

The AFL-CIO supports a system of campaign finance regulation that promotes democratic participation in elections by individuals and their associations; protects legitimate independent speech rights; offers public financing to candidates while firmly regulating contributions to them; and guarantees effective disclosure of who is paying for what.

The accusations and rumors that Joe Stack was some angry right wing "teabagger" are already flying fast and furious around the intertubes. Now, unless the Tea Party(ers) have been going off about the need for healthcare, the evils of religion, the evils of Corporate America...well, we all know that in the minds of the hard left, wishing makes it so. A few excerpts...

 

Why is it that a handful of thugs and plunderers can commit unthinkable atrocities (and in the case of the GM executives, for scores of years) and when it's time for their gravy train to crash under the weight of their gluttony and overwhelming stupidity, the force of the full federal government has no difficulty coming to their aid within days if not hours? Yet at the same time, the joke we call the American medical system, including the drug and insurance companies, are murdering tens of thousands of people a year and stealing from the corpses and victims they cripple, and this country's leaders don't see this as important as bailing out a few of their vile, rich cronies. Yet, the political "representatives" (thieves, liars, and self-serving scumbags is far more accurate) have endless time to sit around for year after year and debate the state of the "terrible health care problem". It's clear they see no crisis as long as the dead people don't get in the way of their corporate profits rolling in.

I 've come to a conclusion, a resolution if you will, now that I've entered my 40th lap around the sun - Piss Off a Muslim at least once a day. Being that this is one of many avenues that I can drive that truck down, let's kick it off correctly - Fuck You Mohammed and the little boy's dick you rode in on.

      This may seem pointless, but no, it isn't. You see, from where I sit there are a number of umbrages that Islam takes with me and my lifestyle, and I throw it back in Islam's lap. You see, I have a giant hard-on for strong women, history and it's relics, pork products and booze. Islam seems to have a violent reaction to these things and the practices that I call my day-to-day...so be it. If Islam disrespects me and my ways, I return the favor - FUCK YOU MOHAMMED! Take issue with that? Good.
