Cold keeps Minn. wind turbines from spinning

Posted by: Barthélemy Barbancourt

Wind turbines placed in cities across Minnesota to generate power aren't working because of the cold temperatures.

The Minnesota Municipal Power Association bought 11 turbines for $300,000 each from a company in Palm Springs, Calif.

Special hydraulic fluid designed for colder temperatures was used in the turbines, but it's not working, so neither are the turbines.

Diversity

More than ever before, students live in an intellectual world of their own, a personal world where every individual’s baseline is likely to be different from that of most others and coincides with few.  Coupled with extremely spotty historical knowledge (Who fought against whom in World War Two or in Vietnam?  Any hands up?), the factors outlined here make for a classroom of wide diversity, though not necessarily the “rich” diversity that college catalogues claim for their campuses.

Oblivious to signals of topic fatigue, some professors continue to assign readings highlighting racial or gender oppression, closed-minded fundamentalist Christians, wise elders “of color,” and any reading that focuses a spotlight on the warts of U.S. policy, history, or culture.  Some professors operate on the mistaken assumption that students will be struck by “Aha!” moments as they are enlightened.  So slight do we feel our influence to be that we take undue delight in satisfying our reformer’s instinct.  Ah well, students must sigh, what else can be expected from college English professors?

Furthermore, students are asked to spend yet more time (as if they hadn’t spent enough in high school) dwelling on themselves, the ever-fascinating “I,” their own lives, their own “feelings,” their own variations on the endless quest for self-discovery.  Foreign students can’t escape this, either.  They are forever urged to write about their own countries and their own cultures, as if their readers must do continuous penance for being born and bred insular, an insularity that is a one-way street—only Americans suffer from it.  So while we ponder ourselves, we must never forget to “honor” diversity.

One of the key new initiatives in President Obama’s State of the Union speech is a three-year freeze on discretionary government spending, but voters overwhelmingly believe the freeze will have little or no impact on the federal deficit.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just nine percent (9%) think the freeze will reduce the deficit a lot.

The public isn't as Obama thinks they are. His proposal is barely a rounding error in our $5.5 trillion dollar budget. Every year Medicare and Medicaid waste 2 to 3 times the projected savings from Obama's 3 year spending freeze.

Ellie Light, the ubiquitous letter writer whose name appeared in newspapers nationwide praising President Barack Obama, appears to really be a male health care worker from California.

A man who identified himself as Winston Steward, 51, of Frazier Park, Calif., says he made up the name "Ellie Light" to protect himself from criticism and possible physical attacks, and used fake addresses across the country to get local newspapers to publish his letters.

The name "Ellie Light" appeared with letters that ran in newspapers in multiple states, including California -- where state law makes it a misdemeanor to sign and send "any letter addressed to a newspaper with the name of a person other than himself."
This is the sort of lying and double dealing that we have all come to expect from the left. I wish this asshole would get prosecuted, but he won't.

Maybe Obama has memory issues. He did smoke a ton of pot and Hillary thinks that he sold drugs.

The Bankrupting of the United States of America

Our country is head towards bankruptcy. Obama isn't entirely to blame but his liberal policies have accelerated the process to the point where even the dimmest bulb can see the inevitable.

The economic stimulus bill's price tag has risen to $862 billion, the Congressional Budget Office said Tuesday — a $75 billion jump that's a result in part to the fact that, despite the spending, joblessness has risen and the government is paying out more than expected on unemployment benefits.

The CBO, in a new report, also said spending in fiscal 2010 will push the deficit to more than $1.3 trillion, or nearly the record $1.4 trillion deficit recorded in 2009.

If Obama hates it, American's trust it!

The Democratic polling outfit Public Policy Polling reveals:

Americans do not trust the major tv news operations in the country- except for Fox News. Our newest survey looking at perceptions of ABC News, CBS News, CNN, Fox News, and NBC News finds Fox as the only one that more people say they trust than distrust. 49% say they trust it to 37% who do not. CNN does next best at a 39/41 spread, followed by NBC at 35/44, CBS at 32/46, and ABC at 31/46.

This will certainly be unwelcome news to the White House, but it is also further evidence that the Obama administration may have the ability to lift its enemies to new heights of popularity. Perhaps all that vilification from the White House demonstrated that Fox wasn’t the patsy of the administration. Or maybe viewers can judge for themselves — and have long since tuned out the advice of the White House on everything from health care to which news outlet they should watch.

A job centre has been slammed for refusing to display an advert for a 'reliable workers' - because it discriminated against unreliable applicants.

Recruitment boss Nicole Mamo, 48, tried to post an advert for a £5.80-an-hour domestic cleaner on her local Jobcentre Plus website.

This is in the UK, but will be happening here soon.

Indonesia mulls tearing down Obama statue

Indonesian authorities said Monday they are considering a petition to tear down a statue of US President Barack Obama as a boy, only a month after the bronze was unveiled in Jakarta.

"Barack Obama has yet to make a significant contribution to the Indonesian nation. We could say Obama only ate and s (expletive) in Menteng. He spent his subsequent days living as an American," the web page says.

Joe Klien at Time thinks that 75% of American are just too dumb to understand how great Obama and his $ trillion plans are. Absolutely amazing poll results from CNN today about the $787 stimulus package: nearly three out of four Americans think the money has been wasted.

I wonder why they would think that? I mean 10% unemployment, a shitty housing market and huge bank profits on top of impossible lending standards couldn't possibly signal that Obama is a massive failure to the average American. Nah.

On second thought, they may be right: it's been wasted on them. Indeed, the largest single item in the package--$288 billion--is tax relief for 95% of the American public. This money is that magical $60 to $80 per month you've been finding in your paycheck since last spring. Not a life changing amount, but helpful in paying the bills.

Barry's ego knows no bounds.

Barak Obama has lost touch with reality, assuming he ever was in touch or even gave a shit.

Rep. Marion Berry's parting shot, published in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette [no link, subscription only] offers a warning to moderate Democrats and border state moderates — warning of a midterm bloodbath comparable to the 54-seat D-to-R swing in 1994.

But the jaw-dropper is Berry's claim that President Obama personally dismissed any comparison between Democrats now and under Bill Clinton 16 years ago — by saying his personal popularity would bail everybody out.

This Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010 booking photo provided by the Utah County jail shows Gary Coleman. Coleman, 41, was arrested in Utah Sunday on a warrant for failing to appear in court, police said.

Kermit is in a bad mood for some reason today, I guess he feels a real bond with Gary Coleman.

So our President needs a teleprompter when he talks to elementary schoolchildren? I think Obama is very insecure (or honest to himself) about his unscripted debate skills.

Amid tight security at his sentencing Thursday for brazenly killing another teenager in a Minneapolis parking lot, Denell Ray Malone Jr. gave a statement that veered from angry and profane to apologetic and sad.

"It's ruthless out here in these streets; we're playing for keeps. Don't act like you don't know," Malone, 18, told a packed Hennepin County courtroom during his sentencing for killing Haywood Eaton. District Judge Mark Wernick sentenced Malone to 30 years in prison as part of a plea deal. He could get out in 20 years if he behaves.

In an unusually tense and emotional hearing, the victim's mother, Stephanie Moreland, herself in prison for forgery, attended with hands cuffed in front of her, clutching a tissue.

Let us pray: Our Favre-ther, who art in Mississippi, hallowed be thy name. Thy bowl will come, it will be won, in Miami as it is in the Dome. Give us this Sunday our weekly win. Give us touchdown passes, but do not let others pass against us. Lead us not into frustration, but deliver us to the Super Bowl. For thine is .............the MVP, the best of the NFC, and the glory of the Purple People Eaters now and forever.  Amen

Our Peyton, who art in Indy, hallowed be thy arm. Thy bowl will come, it will be won, in Miami as it was in ’07. Give us this Sunday, our weekly win, and give us many touchdowns, but don’t let the evil jets score against us. Lead us not into frustration, but deliver us a super bowl, for thine is…the dynasty, the NFL’s best, and the glory of Indy…Forever…Amen

Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that she lacks the votes to quickly move the Senate's sweeping health overhaul bill through the House, a potentially devastating blow to President Barack Obama's signature issue.

"In its present form without any changes I don't think it's possible to pass the Senate bill in the House," Pelosi said, adding, "I don't see the votes for it at this time."

Pelosi, D-Calif., made the comment to reporters after House Democrats held a closed-door meeting at which participants vented frustration with the Senate's massive version of the legislation.

This guy is starting to get it but he has a long way to go.

It's almost a holy mission. As people said over and over again, it's about "taking our country back."

But from whom? And why can't we get it back by, you know, voting for the other guys?

I did something new today. I paid a pretty young lady to kick my ass. I know what you're thinking but it's actually much worse than that. She goes by the title of "personal trainer", not mistress, and the "gym" was far more depressing than any dungeon could possibly be.

You know you have turned some corner in life when you now pay people to make you sore and tired. In my youth, people paid me to get sore and tired. I called it "work" back in the day. Of course now "work" consists of parking my ever expanding ass in front of a computer and moving my fingers and not much else for 8 to 12 hours a day.

So in order to exist like my ancient ancestors, like my grandfather who built houses and restored cars until the day he dies, I need to pay someone to keep my work from killing me.

Long time Anti-Gun Advocate State Senator R..C. Soles, 74, shot one of two intruders at his home just outside Tabor City, N.C. about 5 p.m. Sunday, the prosecutor for the politician's home county said.

Multiple media outlets reported that Columbus County Sheriff Chris Batten said that 74-year-old Sen. R.C. Soles of Tabor City shot Kyle Blackburn late Sunday afternoon.

Batten says the shooting occurred when two men went to the senator’s house and tried to kick in his front door. No charges have been filed.

President Obama made fun of Scott Brown's pickup truck in his speech on Sunday in Boston.

Scott Brown is driving that truck to Washington this week to kill Obamacare.

Does anyone wonder why we think Barry Obama is an elitist, ignorant prick? Of course now we get to add, loser to his litany of failures.
