10 Random Musings volume 5

1. Woke up this AM far too early again to go to the gym.  As we left the driveway, we noticed the trunk and car doors on our neighbor's vehicle were wide open.  Someone broke in overnight and rifled through the vehicle; luckily, nothing of value was taken.  Really nice, considering this neighbor (a retired 20 year Navy Seabee) recently returned from an 18 month National Guard deployment in Iraq.  Nice, serve your country, and come home and have some little asshole(s) break into your car.  I SO wish he would have caught them in the act...he's got a .45 for just the occasion, and my would it have been sweet to see their faces when that popped out of the back door.

2. I am not particularly fond of the term "innards".

3. A Happy Belated Birthday to our President.  Way to be born 49 years and one day ago, Mr. President.

4. Judge Vaughn Walker is precisely what is wrong with the country right now.  Apparently the "will of the people" means nothing to this man.  Not only is he legislating from the bench, but he is too personally involved with the subject to be unbiased.

5. And before you get all whipped up, calm down.  I am a proponent of civil unions.  The issue here is that a US District court judge is calling Prop 8 unconstitutional, when in reality there is nothing (no matter how cute you try to be about it) in the the US constitution that says that ANYONE has the right to be married.  Spare me the "Freedom of Association" mularkey.  It has long been my opinion that civil unions should be the way to go for ALL unions, and if someone chooses to be married in a church they can work it out with the church.  The union itself is a contract.    6. The Matt Capps trade is turning out to be a bust.

7. Ok, I'm going to say this just one last time.  All of the Brett Favre crap is ENTIRELY MEDIA DRIVEN.  To those that are sports fans, you know it's true.  Have you watched local news lately?  Prior to "textgate", there was a mention of Favre on the news EVERY DAY.  The sports guys interviewed players and asked them about Brett.  The national guys have done the same damn thing.  He hasn't actually said much of anything at all.  So, all the sudden, someone gets a text about the ankle not being 100% yet and two dillholes (PEter King and Adam Schefter) turn it into a major news story.  Meanwhile, every "fan" out there is ripping Favre to shreds.  Um...he didn't actually do anything here.  He hasn't said much of anything, so it would do some folks some good to shut the hell up for a while until the guy actually does make a decision.  Yes, I agree, Favre should be in camp, but for the love of all that which is holy, how dense can you be if you truly believe he's orchestrating this thing?  Blame Adam Schefter and Peter King.  They started this crap.  If the media weren't TALKING ABOUT IT ALL THE TIME, IT WOULDN'T BE A STORY!!  Oh, and by the way - THIS ISN'T NEWS, ya jackwagons.

8. Dontcha just LOVE how the Federal Govt is taking credit for the Gulf cleanup?  What a load of shit.  But I am happy that the static kill has worked.  Cement goes in shortly, and hopefully this ends it.  9. Add the entire cast of Jersey Shore to my "People I would love to see go away for good, never to be heard from again".  If I never hear the names "Snooki" or "The Situation" again, that would be awesome.  However, I will admit, since that dipshit named his ab region "The Situation", I felt compelled to name mine "The Predicament".  If you have ever met me, you know how funny this is.

10. bacon! kickball has been on fire this summer, and we've been having a shitload of fun out there.  6-1 on the session, and we've scored 45 total runs in the past two games (22 last week and 23 this week).  I give all the credit for our success to my super sweet 70's porn moustache (CB3.0).  I started growing it, we started winning.  I'm just saying.

How is Favre NOT a story?
written by Jim ross , August 05, 2010

So, Favre sends text messages to some teammates and team officials saying he's retiring and the media is supposed to just ignore it? Somehow Favre being a complete prima donna and drama queen is the media's fault? C'mon now!

Unfortunately, many sports fans would rather have the reporters that cover their favorite teams act like fans instead of journalists. Same thing happens in politics, I guess.

Favre is one of the most selfish, spoiled and pampered athletes of all time. However, since he's a good 'ol southern boy who is tremendously skilled at cultivating an image (and because he's still an excellent QB), most fans give him a pass. I'll never understand how fans can crucify Lebron James, Chad Ochocinco or Terell Owens, but continue to embrace Favre like he's a God.

I'm not embracing Favre like he's God. I've listened to years of people shredding him as if he's done so many things wrong, and he has (like not wanting to show up for camp, feeding some of the drama). But from what I can tell, the text messages didn't say he was retiring, that was READ INTO the texts. I haven't actualy heard him say much of anything. The retirement drama, yes, he has fed that. But the media has been complicit in making this an everyday story. And because the geniuses in the media sniff something and run with it doesn't necessarily make it so. Schefter and King can hardly be considered anything but shills at this point. Sorry, but I just don't see how the guy has fed much of hte recent shit. Notice how he came out and immediately said "uh, I didn't say that"? Have you actually heard him say he was retiring this year? Did he say so after the championship game? I didn't. I heard the question asked of him, but I never heard him say yes.

And for teh sake of Clarity JR, I'm a Packer fan. I just don't harbor ill will against the guy because he wears purple now. Did he handle the transition to the Jets poorly? Yes. Was there blame on both the Packers and Favre? yes. The crap LAST offseason was entirely media driven, as is this years crap. If the guy showed up in camp like everyone else, none of this would be an issue. TO that end, I guess I can see your prima donna point.

Judge Walker is a joke
written by Barthélemy Barbancourt , August 05, 2010

Sadly, he has just added more fuel to the fire over Gay Marriage. Prior to his asinine ruling, there wasn't a need for a Constitutional Amendment to ban Gay Marriage, now there is.

If the voters of a state can't decide this issue, it will have to be decided by the Supreme Court and if they decide that ban is unconstitutional, the Constitution will have to be amended.

Don't down play the massive amount of resistance there is to Gay Marriage. If liberal Claifornia can pass a ban, the entire country can support a Constitutional Amendment.

Oh, I know there is massive resistance to gay marraige. I don't get it, but I know it's there. And when the majority speaks, contrary to what the Judge says, it's not to marginalize a segment of the population. If that's the case, we have the right to sue over that crock of shit environment bill that was approved by the "majority" a couple of years back. The majority chose to ban it in CA; chances are that would happen damn near everywhere else if it were a ballot question. It's the will of hte people. Just because a gay judge thinks the people are wrong doesn't make it unconstitutional. This isnt a monarchy, and he isn't an elected official. And I have a feeling that when this hits teh Supreme court, they will agree and this ruling will get tossed.

However, a smart person would use this as an opportunity to open up a discussion on civil unions.

The bigger issue
written by jokin , August 05, 2010

is the overreach of the Federal judiciary and their ledgerdemain into areas of the law that are strictly the state's.

We need a Constitutional Amendment to reinvigorize the 10th amendment and strictly proscribe and limit the unelected federal courts from thwarting the will of the people.

The texts did say he was retiring. That's why ownership had to scramble and meet on the field Tuesday. Sure, the media has been complicit in making this an every-day story because it's their job to report news. Favre sending texts saying he's retiring is HUGE news. It would be incompetent to just ignore it.

And Favre knows this. If he feels that he's not getting the attention he deserves, he'll fire off a text message or give a quick soundbite to a reporter to get his name back in the headlines. Yes, the 24/7 coverage gets old, but that's the times we live in. Fave also knows he has the Vikings by the balls. Tuesday's texts were Favre squeezing the Viking's balls just a little bit tighter.

It just fascinates me how people can buy into his BS, but not the BS of other pro athletes. Part of me wonders if it's racial, but that can of worms likely isn't worth opening.

I will say this: We now know why Favre was so fond of the Pants of the Ground song last seasonsmilies/smiley.gif

Did you see the texts yourself? How do we know for sure that is what he said?? Because it was reported? Do we know which players he supposedly sent the texts to? Or were these "anonymous sources"?? http://webcache.googleusercont...clnk&gl=us

Huh, anonymity. That's convenient.

Remember - It's the media. THe same group of dimwits that reported babies being raped in New Orleans during Katrina. The same media that ran with a story of two cops pissing on a drunk indian in North Mpls, only to find out that it was actually the drunk indian that peed on himself. The same media that ran with a story accusing cops of raping a black man in North with teh wooden handle of a plunger, only to find out that the story was completely made up. You'll have to excuse me if I don't buy into all the bullshit.

And you're right - don't go race baiting.

I blocked Favre's number because he kept sending me dong shots. So no, I haven't seen the texts myself. Shiancoe confirmed teammates and team officials had received retirement texts so I wouldn't say the sourcing was anonymous.

It's beyond me how people can get mad at the media for this one. I wish I had half of the charm and charisma that No. 4 had.

Hell, if I had Jenn Sterger's cell #, I might send her a couple pics of my own. That chick is what started Hot chick Friday here at the Anti-Strib.

At least he wasn't sending em to Bea Arthur. But it is a dick move (pardon the pun) if it's true. He's married, so in my book that's a no no.

The media is far from untouchable. They are a collective group of fuckups. They all sensationalize stuff that sells. It's beyond me how some people can't see that.

And I'm sure the guys he "texted" were named Rosenfels and Jackson. smilies/smiley.gif Shiancoe said he "told a couple of guys" but no one seems to know who. Funny how that works.

People are even willing to roll out the vast media conspiracy theory on a Brett Favre story? There is no hope for society!

The Sterger story (if you can call it that) seems to be dying quickly. Deadspin flubbed it up by not obraining one of the voice mails or pics, and by completely screwing Sterger over by not explicitly getting the go-ahead from her to run the piece. Poor girl.

People are even willing to allow their biases towards former QB's get in the way of reason! There really IS no hope for society. smilies/smiley.gif

YEah, it's not much of a story. But thankfully, it puts Jenn back in the news a bit. SHe is awfully hot. I might have to do a post tomorrow in her honor.

I calls them like I sees them. Favre is a liar and a master manipulator. Now people are blaming the media for his behavior! Sheesh!

If Favre truly was the warrior and gunslinger he's convinced many of us that he is, he would've used his leverage to get rid of the incompetent Brad Childress. But that would mean all the pressure would fall on No. 4's shoulders. With Chilly still around, he's got two excuses in case he flops in 2010: The coach and his ankle.

Is it September yet? I need to stimulate the economy by gambling on football.

I may start coming around to your way of thinking JR. I just read that he was supposedly pleasuring himself in one picture to Jenn while wearing crocs.

I can understand a lot of things, but Crocs? Say it ain't so!

No self respecting man would be caught masterbating in crocs.

We all know what the Favre does.
training camp is for those other "non hall of fame" players.
Favre shows up when camp breaks, and plays when the games count.
I'd heard a rumor that the team was pressuring "the 4" to get his ass to camp, and he responded with the texts to strategic teammates.
Now they'll just be happy if he comes back.
Brilliant. He's playing the press and the team like a fiddle.
True chutzpah.

There is etiquette besides not getting walked in on?
What is the proper footwear for this sort of activity?
I fear I may have been doing something wrong all these years.
